Shriners International describes itself as a fraternity based on fun, fellowship, and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief, and truth. There are approximately 350,000 members from 196 temples (chapters) in the U.S., Canada, Brazil, Bolivia, Mexico, the Republic of Panama, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, Europe, and Australia. The organization is best known for the Shriners Hospitals for Children that it administers, and the red fezzes that members wear. The organization was previously known as “Shriners North America”. The name was changed in 2010 across North America, Central America, South America, Europe, and Southeast Asia.

We’re also proud that the money we raise from our Bahia Shrine Inaugural 5K Camel Walk/Run stays right here in the community. 100% of the proceeds of the Bahia Shrine Inaugural 5K Camel Walk/Run benefit the Bahia Shrine Center. This is a fraternal fundraiser for the Bahia Shrine Center general operating fund.

Race Director

Alan Higgins‘s passion for running is off the charts! He’s always on Marathonguide.com looking for his next marathon.

I have completed many 5, 10, 15Ks and half marathons. I have one and one only (for as long as I live ) 50 mile Ultra that took me 9hr and 10 minutes.

It wasn’t until January of 1998 I ran my first marathon, I was hooked. As of me writing this, I have 81 marathons.

I am a member of the Marathon Maniacs and the 50 State Club . October 18th 2018, I completed a marathon is all 50 states., a 20 year 9 month incredible journey of memories. I have met thousands along the way and have many lifelong friends due to running.

Runners are goal driven and I am no different, my next goal is to become a Special Olympics track and field coach. I truly have been blessed over the years and now I want to work with these incredible Athletes.

I am a proud member of Shriners International, a fraternity based on fun, fellowship and the Masonic principles of brotherly love, relief and truth. We support Shriners Hospital for Children, a health system of 22 locations.

The Bahia Shrine Inaugural 5K Camel Walk/Run is our way of introducing ourselves to the Apopka community. We recently moved into our new location 3101 E. Semoran Blvd ( The old Consumer Connection Bldg. )

Thank You !!! I so look forward to meeting all of you who sign up and come out for this truly one of a kind 5K. Seriously, how many races have you been to where there is a real camel waiting to kiss you?
